Track & Field

Track & Field (3:00 pm - 4:30 pm)

  • Practice Dates: Monday and Wednesday (3:00-4:30)
    • Practices will be held at Gray's Woods (on the outdoor track).
    • The season will begin on Monday, April 6th, and run through the week before our tournament dates.
    • The track and field season concludes with a District-Wide Track Meet scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th (4th Grade) & Thursday, May 21st (5th Grade) at the High School Track. 
      • This event is only open to any 4th or 5th-grade student who attends at least 50% of the practices.
      • The rain date of  Tuesday, May 26th, will be utilized if needed.
  • Permission Forms can be printed from this link and must be turned in to Dr. Petersen before your child plans to attend his or her first practice. 
  • Possible cancellations due to weather
    • If bad weather prevents us from being able to use our outdoor facilities, we most likely would be forced to cancel practice that day. In the case of a cancellation, we will notify you by noon (via Parent Square) and post a notice on our school website. Please ensure your child knows what their after-school plan is in case of a cancelled practice, although they will have an opportunity to call home if need be.

**Note: Grade-specific practices on 5/11 & 5/18 are only scheduled to last 1 hour. Pick-up will be at 4:00 pm. 

Frequently Asked Questions:

What should kids bring to track practice?

-       To hold our practices, we need to be outside, so please make sure your child dresses for the weather.

-       We also strongly encourage students to wear (or bring) a pair of athletic shoes (not sandals or boots) when participating in IMs.

-       Lastly, bringing a water bottle to practice is also highly recommended, so we can limit our trips inside.

When is Pick-up?

-       Pick-Up is at 4:30 pm.

-       We always dismiss students from the usual Parent Pick-Up doors by the side parking lot.

-       We ask students not to cross through the parking lot but rather get in their parents' car after it pulls up to the curb.

-       If you plan on carpooling or making alternate arrangements, please send a note or email to Dr. Petersen or the Office so we know about that change.

What are the events my child can sign up for?

-       Over the first few weeks of IM track & field practices, students will be introduced to the various events they will be able to choose from to compete in at their grade level's district meet.

-       This event selection process will occur toward the middle of our season, and then students will use the last few practices to isolate their focus on those selected events.

-       When this process occurs, students will be required to select at least two events (one being a track event and the other a field event), although they can choose to compete in up to 4 events total.
